The typical goal of cardio is to burn as much fat as possible, but it is rare for cardio to also stimulate high levels of muscle growth. If you are short on time, or simply like dynamic workouts more than the next guy, doing hybrid cardio/resistance exercises might be more your cup of tea. High Volume Squats One of the most engaging exercises there is, and arguably the best lower body exercise since the dawn of man. Squats are a staple in any training program, but doing high amounts of reps is what will separate it from just being a muscle builder, and being a fat incinerating AND muscle building exercise. This, along with deadlifts, has my heart rate elevated the most intensely and longest BAR NONE out of any exercise I do in the gym. Next time you workout, try lightening up the weight a bit, and doing 30+ reps each set for squats. I guarantee you will be gassed out, and your legs will definitely still be sore the next day. It is simply fantastic for fat loss and muscle growth. Deadlift/Shrug Combo This is a unique combo exercise that not only induces huge amounts of muscular hypertrophy everywhere in your body, but it will undoubtedly crank your heart rate way up into hardcore fat burning mode. The premise of this exercise is simple, after the completion of the first deadlift rep, you must complete 3 subsequent shrugs. Afterwards, you will do another deadlift, followed by 3 more shrugs. And so on and so forth until you reach muscular failure, or are simply sucking too much air to continue. This exercise is an absolute killer. Here is a quick video showing exactly how to complete it: Sled Drags Instead of sitting on a bike for an hour, try sled drags. This dynamic form of cardio is great for overall muscular development, while burning lots of calories and stored fat. Alternatively, you can do prowler sprints: Or even tire flips: Any of these exercises mentioned above are guaranteed to be great all in one muscle builders and fat burners.
