Not only did I NOT drop dead of a heart attack as many friends & family members suggested I might, but I feel more energetic, clean, and healthy than I have in a LONG time. Energy levels are up. The only way you can optimize your life is by trying out many different things and finding out for yourself what works and what doesn’t work. Having done 1-2 week cycles of the carnivore diet in the past, we knew that the carnivore diet was an effective fat loss diet. Those 1/2 week experiments were so effective that we wrote a guide on how to follow the carnivore diet for 7-days for people to try it out for themselves. Most people who followed our instructions for a 7-day trial of the carnivore diet lost 1 – 2 pounds per day for 7 days straight! Incredible, right? <Click Here To Check Out The 7-Day Carnivore Diet Guide> Since being on the carnivore diet for 1 week at a time worked so well, we wanted to see what happened when we followed the carnivore diet for a month straight. So that’s exactly what I did. Carnivore Diet Results: 31 Days On Carnivore The goal for following the carnivore diet this past month was to test how much body fat I could lose in 1 month. Honestly, I wanted to end 2018 with a six-pack. But here’s the thing about six-packs…. It’s not just about how strong your abdominal muscles are, it’s mostly about how much fat you have covering your abs. When I began the carnivore diet on 12/1/18, I weighed 187 lbs @ around 15% body fat. (I’m 6 feet tall by the way.) According to most people, in order to achieve a set of visible abs, you need to be around 7-8% body fat. 187 lbs @ 15% body fat = ~28 lbs of body fat 187 lbs @ 7% body fat = ~13 lbs of body fat Assuming that I was able to just lose body fat and maintain the amount of lean body mass (muscle & bone) that I have on my body, then I needed to lose around 15 pounds of body fat in order to have a visible set of 6-pack abs. All I needed to do was lose 15 pounds of body fat in 1 month. This seemed easy because on 7 days of the carnivore diet I was able to lose 8 pounds, so in 31 days I should be able to lose 15, right? Target in sight I set out to achieve my goal. Below are my weight measurements for the month. (Weight is measured in pounds) Week 1: (187 lbs – 180 lbs) 12/1/18 – 187 | 12/2/18 – 186 | 12/3/18 – 183 | 12/4/18 – 182 | 12/5/18 – 181.5, | 12/6/18 – 180.5 | 12/7/18 – 180 Week 2: (180 lbs – 180 lbs) 12/8/18 -180 | 12/9/18 – 178.5 | 12/10/18 – 178.5 | 12/11/18 – 179 | 12/12/18 – 178 | 12/13/18 – 177.5 | 12/14/18 – 180 Week 3: (176 lbs – 176 lbs) 12/15/18 – 176 | 12/16/18 – 175 | 12/17/18 – 176 | 12/18/18 – 178 | 12/19/18 – 177 |12/20/18 – 176 |12/21/18 – 176 Week 4: (176 lbs – 172.5 lbs) 12/22/18 – 176 | 12/23/18 – 175 | 12/24/18 – 175 | 12/25/18 – 175.5 | 12/26/18 – 176 | 12/27/18 – 174 | 12/28/18 – 172.5 Week 5: (174 lbs – 172 lbs) 12/29/18 – 174 | 12/30/18 – 173 | 12/31/18 – 172 I lost 15 pounds In 31 Days On The Carnivore Diet! While I ending up hitting my goal of 15 pounds lost in 1 month, I still don’t have a solid six-pack, so that’s a bit of a bummer. Regardless, 15 pounds of weight loss in 31 days is AMAZING and translates to half a pound a day or 3.5 pounds per week. Seeing as the average person can only expect to lose 1 – 2 pounds per week using other dieting methods, that means the carnivore diet is roughly 2x – 3x more effective than most traditional fat loss diets. Something interesting to point out is that the weight loss isn’t linear, it changes day-to-day. The largest weight loss came from the first 15 days, when I lost 11 pounds. Then it took me 16 more days to lose 4 more pounds! This is a perfectly normal process. On any diet you go on your weight loss is going to be up and down day-to-day, but it should be going down week to week. What Food Did I Eat During The Carnivore Diet? The carnivore diet is not the most exciting diet, but it is one of the most simple diets out there. (Click Here To Find Out Everything You Need To Know About The Carnivore Diet) For an entire month I ate meat, eggs, cheese, and butter/tallow. That’s it. No fruits, no veggies, no sugar, no carbs of any kind. Just protein & fat. Typically I would eat 2 meals per day, lunch and dinner. Lunch would typically consist of: 3-4 AA large organic eggs, 2 oz of Dubliner Irish Cheese, 4 – 5 bacon strips or 2-3 Italian sausage patties 2 – 3 tbsp of butter/tallow Dinner would typically consist of: 1 – 1.5 lbs of fatty steak (chuck steak or ribeye steak) or 2 – 3 hamburger patties 80% lean w/ 2 oz cheese or 1 – 1.5 lbs of gyro meat (lamb meat) or 1 – 1.5 lbs of pork steak/pork chops All meals cooked with 2-4 tbsp of butter/tallow Following the meal plan above I was consistently eating around 2,500 calories per day with around 70%-80% fat & 20%-30% protein macronutrient breakdown. (This is optimal. You want to be eating around 70% – 80% fat with the rest being protein.) I did go out to eat with friends/family occasionally. This wasn’t as hard to do as many people think. If you’re on Carnivore and you’re going out to eat, just order a steak. If they don’t have steak, order a cheeseburger with no buns. (Usually they will give you a lettuce wrap.) When they give you a side of french fries just give them to your friend or tell them that you don’t want them. Simple enough. Some days you’re on the run and you miss a meal and you’re starving. It happens. In that case, an easy replacement meal is to go to a local McDonalds and order 2 McDoubles with no buns. They’ll give you them in a plastic container with a fork & knife. You get 4 patties & 2 slices of cheese for around $3. It’s fast & easy & will hold you over until you’re ready to actually cook a meal. (Don’t make this a habit though.) The 5 Major Health Benefits Of Carnivore Diet After being on the carnivore diet for a month you are going to notice some big changes in a good way. Here are the top 5 benefits that I noticed while on the Carnivore. #1 – You Lose Weight, Fast Your body is going to drop a ton of weight really quickly. The more fat that you have on your body, the more fat you are going to lose and the faster it is going to happen. As an athletic person with around 15% body fat, I was able to lose around 10 pounds in the first 2 weeks. Then it took me another 2 weeks to lose 5 more pounds. Someone with 20% – 30% body fat would probably double those results, if they stick to the diet properly. The most dramatic weight loss is going to be in the first 2 weeks so get excited for that. We estimate that it’s close to a 50/50 split regarding fat loss & water weight loss. Since you are cutting out all carbohydrates from your system, your body will hold onto a lot less water. This is great because it gets rid of all the bloating in your body leading to a more leaned out and tighter body really quickly. #2 – Your Strength Increases Most of the time when you are going on a strict diet to lose weight your muscles suffer a lot. While you may try to maintain the amount of muscle mass that you have on your body, inevitably you will lose some muscle simply because you are eating at a caloric deficit all of the time and your body needs to break down some muscle for energy. This doesn’t happen on the carnivore diet. Why? Because you aren’t eating in a caloric deficit. Many days while I was on the carnivore diet I ate 2,5000 – 3,000 calories and I STILL LOST WEIGHT. This happens because your body is in pure ketosis, meaning that your body is running off of fat for energy. When you are only eating 2 meals per day, as I was, when your body is “fasting” in-between meals it steadily just burns your body fat for energy, leading to continued weight loss. Your body doesn’t need to burn your muscles or bone for energy because you’re NOT starving yourself on carnivore, you’re just making your body more efficient. Also, you’re going to be eating 150 grams of protein or more per day. When you’re eating your bodyweight or more in protein everyday, it REALLY helps to prevent any type of muscle catabolism. #3 – Digestive Issues Disappear Personally, I’ve never had the best digestive system. Following the Carnivore diet really helped change that. Instead of going to the bathroom 3 – 4 times per day, I go 1 or 2 times per day now. This is huge. I also noticed that the abdominal cramping that I used to experience when I had to go to the bathroom or while I was in the bathroom has all but disappeared. Looking deeper into this, we came across some interesting information about plants & meat. The moral of the story is that your body likes meat a lot more than it likes plants. Your stomach acid is meant to digest meat, not plants. In studies done in the past, it was noted that it takes around 45 minutes to digest 90%+ meat/animal products that you eat in your stomach. Plants on the other hand only get partially digested, (at most 50%), and even then it can take up to 4 – 5 hours to digest. Animal products just get digested better and smoothly pass through your intestines, unlike plants that don’t get digested properly and clog up your intestines. You don’t need fiber on the carnivore diet because animal products don’t clog up your intestines, they just pass right though. Plants clog up your intestines, leading to stomach pain, IBS, and way too many trips to the bathroom and fiber helps to push out all of that plant build up. But causes tearing and inflammation in your colon while it does so. #4 – Energy Levels Are Up! You know when you eat a big meal and you’re dead tired afterwards? Like you eat a few slices of pizza or whatever and you want to take a nap 30 minutes later? That does not happen on the carnivore diet. You GAIN energy when you eat meat while you are on the carnivore diet. Overall your body just feels lighter, cleaner and more full of energy while you are eating the carnivore diet. It probably has something to do with the fact that you are finally giving your body the nutrition it wants instead of pumping it full of carbs and processed poisons every day. I found that I could skip breakfast, work all morning, go to the gym, and then finally sit down for my first meal at 3 or 4 pm and still have energy to keep going if I wanted to. #5 – Brain Fog Is Down (Mental Clarity Is Up!) You know when you have a word on the tip of your tongue but you just can’t think of what it is? Yeah that doesn’t happen to me when I’m on the carnivore diet anymore. It’s not that the carnivore diet cures forgetfulness, it just helps you think more clearly. Your brain isn’t fogged up with sugar rushes from carbs, it’s free to process your thoughts properly. It really helps you become more productive. Instead of waking up and staring at my computer for 30 minutes before my brain turns on and I am ready to work, I just sit down and start working. It feels like your body is just operating at a higher level of performance all of the time. Bonus Benefit: My Skin (Psoriasis) Cleared Up This one is highly subjective to me, but still very note worthy. I have psoriasis and after being on the carnivore diet for a month it’s pretty much completely gone. No more flare ups, no more itching, no more redness, no more pain. It’s just like normal skin now. I don’t know if this will happen with everyone who tries the carnivore diet, probably not, but MANY people have reported drastic improvements in their skin/auto-immune conditions after being on the carnivore diet. This is because the carnivore diet eliminates inflammation in your body, which is the root cause for many of these health problems. Should You Do The Carnivore Diet? If you are looking to seriously level-up your physical & mental performance then you should try out the carnivore diet. We recommend just starting with 7 days at first and seeing how you feel. If you feel good, then you should extend it to 30 days and then evaluate how it goes. Personally, I love the results and insights into my own body that the carnivore diet has given me.
