You give your body what it craves: MEAT and you sit back and watch as your body transforms to your wishes. What Do You Eat On The Carnivore Diet? The Carnivore diet is the simplest diet in the world. All you need to do is ask yourself a simple question: Did what you’re about to eat come from an animal? If yes, then you can eat it. If no, then you can’t eat it. It sounds crazy, right? Good. How Does The Carnivore Diet Work? You may not have heard about the carnivore diet before, but we’re sure that you’ve heard of a Keto diet or a low carb diet before. We like to say that the carnivore diet is the ‘final form’ of a ketogenic diet. The Carnivore diet is not a low carb diet, it’s a ZERO carb diet. Here’s how it works in simple terms: Contrary to popular belief, your body burns fat for energy, not carbohydrates. Aside from your brain, which runs off of glucose, nearly everything else in your body runs off of the energy that it gets from breaking down fat. Dietary fat (fat you eat), or stored fat (body fat). We can’t underline this point enough. Your body does NOT run off of carbohydrates. It runs off of FAT. This is why right after you eat carbohydrates, your body will begin the process of breaking down those carbohydrates first into sugar, then into body fat. Why? Because FAT fuels your body. FAT is what your body craves and FAT is what your body needs to run properly. If you stop and think about it for a moment, you realize that eating carbohydrates is an extremely ineffective way of getting energy to fuel your body. You eat the carbs, but your body doesn’t burn carbs for fuel, it needs to first convert them into sugar. By converting the carbs into sugar, your body releases insulin to prevent your blood sugar levels from raising too high and killing you. So now your body is working really hard to: A) Convert these carbs you ate into sugar B) Control your blood sugar levels so you don’t die C) Convert all of this excess sugar into your body into fat so that it can be used as fuel Now, while your body is doing all of this, do you know what your body is not doing? It’s not burning fat for fuel because insulin literally prevents it from doing that. It’s actually just working its hardest to add fat to your body so that you can use it later. Now, when you eat a diet that is primarily fat-based, then you are giving your body the exact type of food that it wants to burn for energy. When you are on a ZERO carb diet such as the carnivore diet, you eliminate the ineffective carbohydrate process from happening at all. Instead, your body just takes in the fat (and protein) that it wants and needs and immediately starts burning it for fuel. Once it’s done burning through what you’ve eaten, it immediately switches over to burning the stored body fat that you have for fuel too. (8.3 lbs to be exact) It’s important to remember that the carnivore diet is a high fat, moderate protein, and ZERO carbohydrate diet. While eating steak, eggs, and butter is the easiest way to follow this diet, you are free to switch things up and eat whatever types of allowed food that you like the most to hit your daily goals. Counting calories is not the most important thing on the carnivore diet, knowing what your macronutrient spread for the day is the most important thing. What we mean by that is that the only thing that you really need to focus on is the fact that you are eating enough FAT every single day. Everyday 60% – 80% of your daily calories should be coming from FAT. While the other 20% – 40% of your calories should be coming from PROTEIN. **Above is a good daily Fat/Protein spread to shoot for. This approximately accounts for 2,418 calories.** (In an ideal world your Carbohydrate count should be at 0% & 0 grams for the day. But this not always possible. As long as you are staying at or under 5g-10g of carbs per day you should be good to go!) This is easier said than done. Luckily there are many things that can help you on your journey. Using things such as the free app MyFitnessPal can help you easily keep track of the food you are eating and your ratios of fat/protein per day. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you get it done, as long as you get it done. How Can You Expect To Feel During This Week? Real talk, if you have never done something like this before, the first couple of days are going to be rough for you. They’re going to be rough because your body is going to be undergoing a massive shift in what food (fuel) you are providing for it. The sad truth is that most people in the world are addicted to sugar. Seeing as how it is in nearly everything you eat, you are probably addicted to it too. Those first few days, you may experience some intense sugar cravings. IGNORE THEM. Nothing of worth in the world is gotten for free. It takes hard work, determination, and standing up to those demons in your head that are telling you to quit. IGNORE THEM. EAT SOME MEAT. Once you get over that initial hump of your body running out of sugar/carbohydrates for potentially the first time ever, things will go a lot smoother.
