What is L-Citrulline DL Malate? L-Citrulline DL Malate is a combination of the amino acid L-Citrulline and Malic Acid. This usually is done in a 2:1 ratio with 2 parts of the mixture being made up of L-Citrulline and 1 part of the mixture as Malic Acid. L-Citrulline is a non-essential amino acid that is often found in a variety of sports supplements to help athletes achieve peak performance. It is an incredibly powerful amino acid that has a wide array of health & performance benefits. Malic Acid is a dicarboxylic organic acid made by all living organisms that helps with the creation and management of energy. It is primarily found in apples and is responsible for that tart-like sour taste when you bite into one. Like citrulline, it is often used in sports supplements to help give athletes a competitive edge. What Does L-Citrulline DL Malate Do? While Citrulline and Malic acid are often paired together because they are very synergistic with one another they are different compounds and as such they each effect the body differently. Citrulline is a non-essential amino acid that is a vital part of the urea cycle, which is the process of how your body removes toxins such as ammonia from itself. Of note to athletes is citrullines ability to help improve blood flow throughout the body, acting as a vasodilator, reducing blood pressure and widening the arteries. It does this by increasing levels of nitric oxide found throughout the body which relaxes the muscles surrounding blood vessels promoting proper blood flow & circulation. Malic acid on the other hand is an organic acid that is found in all living things. It is naturally produced in the human body and plays an important role in the Krebs cycle—This cycle includes the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fatty acids to create ATP (AKA: Energy). As a supplement, malic acid is taken to boost athletic performance and discourage post-exercise muscle fatigue. In one scientific study, where malic acid was combined with creatine, it was shown to help increase growth hormone levels leading to a significant increase in physical performance. It’s also often used to help protect and rejuvenate skin, from dealing with wrinkles to improving skin brightness. Reported Benefits of Supplementation Include: Improve blood flow Decrease blood pressure Prevent erectile dysfunction Boost Nitric Oxide Levels Increase energy levels Improve physical endurance Boost muscle growth (protein synthesis) Increase growth hormone How do you take L-Citrulline DL Malate?
