I'm baffled at how many personal trainers aren't in shape themselves.
I'll often walk into gyms, look at the personal training staff and notice that less than 50% of them are in shape, and less than 10% have even a slightly above average physique.
It often makes me question how they can have a passion for fitness, yet know diddly squat about how to diet or train.
Regardless, sometimes it can be difficult and overwhelming trying to decide who to give your hard earned money to for training.
First, make sure they do your diet AND training regimen. Not just your training regimen.
If your personal trainer only gives you a workout program without teaching you how to diet properly, they are useless.
Second, pick a personal trainer who walks their talk.
If you have a goal physique in mind, pick a trainer who has that upper echelon physique that you are striving for.
If they have achieved that physique themselves, the likelihood that they will be able to help you get there is FAR higher than asking some guy with a bunch of certificates and “accolades”.
If you were trying to get rich, would you ask a homeless guy begging for change how to get rich? Probably not.
That same logic should apply towards getting a top tier physique. Consult only with those who walk their talk.
I've learned 100x more from bodybuilder gym rats than I have from nutritional experts with PhDs.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to directly train your abs to get an amazing visible 6 pack. In fact, many of the guys I know that have competed at the national level in bodybuilding with the best looking six packs, never directly train their abs. So why is there this misconception about doing crunches to get …
There is a common belief that the basis of muscular development is largely (or entirely) dependent on your ability to throw up huge amounts of weight on the “big 3” lifts. Namely the flat barbell bench press, the squat, and the deadlift. This is a huge myth. Whereas those three exercises are great for foundational …
