Red Monkey Ingredients
N-Acetylcysteine (N-A-C) — Phenibut — 5-HTP
Rhodiola Rosea — L-Theanine — Bacopa Mennieri
How Red Monkey's Ingredients Work (Individually)
Red Monkey Ingredients: N-Acetylcysteine (N-A-C)
What is N-A-C?
N-Acetylcysteine (N-A-C) is a powerful nootropic and glutathione precursor. While N-A-C is still being studied for new benefits, it has been used to treat intractable depression and anxiety.
How does N-A-C work?
N-Acetylcysteine is a glutathione precursor. What that means is that N-Acetylcysteine is converted into glutathione.
Glutathione is an antioxidant that used by your liver to detoxify your body.
N-A-C is considered helpful for relieving mental illness because it removes toxins from the body. These toxins would normally be cleared by the liver but if there is a glutathione deficiency, the liver is unable to clear them effectively.
N-A-C enables more glutathione to be produced when it would normally be depleted. Through glutathione buffering, NAC provides antioxidative effects and other benefits.
Why use N-A-C?
- Reduces depression
- Reduces anxiety
- Reduces symptoms of OCD
How to use N-A-C?
N-A-C typically comes in capsules containing 500 – 600 mg each.
Successful studies have shown consumption of 1 – 2 grams (2 – 4 capsules) per day to be effective.
Classes of N-A-C
There is only one class of N-A-C. Common names include: N-Acetyl Cysteine, NAC, N-Ac, and N-Acetylcysteine. However they are all the same compound.
Possible Side Effects of N-A-C
N-A-C typically does not produce any significant side effects. However it can in some cases cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation. Rarely, it can cause rashes, fever, headache, drowsiness, low blood pressure, and liver problems.
Red Monkey Ingredients: Phenibut
What is Phenibut?
Phenibut (beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a derivative of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). Unlike GABA, however, Phenibut can easily pass through the blood-brain barrier and bind to the GABA receptors in the brain.
Compounds that bind to GABA receptors reduce anxiety, produce euphoria, and induce sleep in high doses.
How does Phenibut work?
Phenibut binds to the GABA receptors in your brain (similar to alcohol and prescription anti-anxiety compounds).
Phenibut mimics GABA that is endogenously produced (produced within the body) by binding to GABA-B and GABA-A receptors in the brain.
Why use Phenibut?
- Reduces anxiety – both general and social
- Reduces stress
- Increases social behavior and desire to socialize
- Increases sense of well-being
- Produces slight to moderate euphoria
- Increases quality of the sound of music
- Increases alertness
- Increases cognitive processes
- Improves memory retention
- Increases sexual performance
- No jitters, crash, discoordination, or annoying side effects
- Induces deep, restful sleep (in high doses)
How to use Phenibut?
Phenibut is generally used as a powder. You can measure it using a scale or a measuring spoon. It can be mixed into a drink (it has a very strong, unpleasant flavor) or encapsulated.
When Phenibut is encapsulated, it’s usually at 500 mg per serving.
You should follow a dosing schedule when you use Phenibut.
Upon waking up in the morning, on a completely empty stomach take 1000 mg (1 gram) of Phenibut (If you weigh >210 lbs take 1500mg (1.5 grams) of Phenibut). If you mix it into a drink, mix it into a zero calorie drink like tea, coffee, or diet soda.
Many users highly recommend mixing Phenibut with caffeine or another stimulant. 80 – 160 mg of caffeine is the preferred amount.
45 minutes after your first dose, you can eat some food if you are desire.
At 90 minutes to 2 hours after your Phenibut dose, evaluate how you feel. Phenibut can take long to start working in some cases, sometimes 4-5 hours. However it usually will produce noticeable effects in about 2 hours or sooner.
If you feel NOTHING after 2 hours, take another 500 – 1000 mg dose.
5 hours after your INITIAL dose, re-evaluate how you feel (and based on your plans for the rest of the day, night) consider taking 500-1000 mg (1-2 pills) more.
Do not exceed 4000 mg (8 total capsules or servings) in a 24-hour period.
Short summary of Phenibut dosing schedule:
- Wake up – take 1000 – 1500 mg on an empty stomach
- +2 Hours after your first dose – consider taking another 1000 mg
- +5 Hours after your first dose – consider taking another 500 – 1000 mg
- Evaluate how you feel on an hourly basis. It can take a while to kick in.
Using Phenibut for sleep: a 3000 – 4000 mg dosage taken all AT ONCE can be used for sleep. Many users report that the sleep is incredible and extremely deep. Be aware that there may be residual drowsiness into the next day.
Classes of Phenibut
There are no “classes” of phenibut. It’s either pure phenibut, or it’s fake or adulterated.
Possible Side Effects of Phenibut
Phenibut has very few significant side effects. However caution should be used when mixing it with alcohol as it can potentiate the effects of alcohol. People have reported that 1 drink feels like 3 drinks and 3 drinks feels like 7 or 8 drinks. Use precaution and do not drive.
Although Phenibut is not addictive, tolerance does build fast. It should not be used every day. The safest protocol is to use it 1 to 2 times per week with 4 days in between each usage.
Red Monkey Ingredients: 5-HTP
What is 5-HTP?
5-HTP is the precursor to serotonin, the neurotransmitter sometimes touted to be responsible for happiness. Consuming 5-HTP is a simple way to increase brain serotonin levels.
How does 5-HTP work?
The body converts 5-HTP into serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is one of the principal neurotransmitters involved in happiness and fighting depression.
Why use 5-HTP?
- Reduces appetite
- Increases feelings of happiness
- Decreases symptoms of depression
How to use 5-HTP?
A typical dose of 5-HTP is in the range of 300-500 mg, taken either once daily or in divided doses. Lower doses may also be effective, although usually when paired with other substances.
For the purpose of reducing food intake, 5-HTP should be taken with a meal as it increases satiety from food intake (rather than reducing appetite/hunger).
Classes of 5-HTP
There is only one class of 5-HTP. Common names include: 5-hydroxytryptophan, serotonin precursor.
Possible Side Effects of 5-HTP
Possible side effects of 5-HTP include heartburn, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, sexual problems, and muscle problems.
5-HTP should not be taken with any neurological drug that has been prescribed for antidepressant or other cognitive purposes unless cleared by a medical doctor. This is most important for SSRI usage, wherein the combination with 5-HTP is potentially lethal.
Mark your calendars for Monkey Monday — June 20
Red Monkey Ingredients: Rhodiola Rosea
What is Rhodiola Rosea?
Rhodiola Rosea is a Traditional Chinese Medicine and Scandinavian herb touted to promote physical and cognitive vitality.
How does Rhodiola Rosea work?
Rhodiola Rosea is an adaptogen (like Panax ginseng). Adaptogens are compounds that are able to prevent the physical and chemical effects of stress.
Further research is needed to determine how exactly adaptogens work.
Why use Rhodiola Rosea ?
- Relieves stress
- Promotes a feeling of well-being
- Reduces fatigue and exhaustion in prolonged stressful situation
How to use Rhodiola Rosea?

So is it recommended that we don’t take Red Monkey daily because of the phenibut?
Derek @ RED
Take Red-Monkey no more than 2 times per week.
Trevor
Sounds like a very solid blend. Will definitely give it a try.
Having taken phenibut, l-theanine, and N-A-C before, I can vouch for their separate effectivenesses.
Will be interesting to see how they synergize.
